Wrapped in Jesus's Love
29 August 2026
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16 (NIV)
How have I made it these past two weeks with this week being harder?
To set the stage: For 14 years I’ve been soaking in God’s Word each morning. But last Monday I stopped. Instead, I asked Jesus to wrap me in his love–I needed to feel him close.
On Monday, Alexis greeted me with huge smile to bring me to the radiation room. (I sensed at that moment Jesus had me.) While on the radiation table, it became evident I was sick. The radiation nurse then came in and confirmed: I had a fever. If my fever increases to 104 degrees, I am to take an ambulance to the hospital. That night Brian and I found ourselves nursing a 103.1 degree fever the old fashion-way. (Due to bloodwork, the doctor does not want me taking any medication.) That is when I pictured Jesus’s love in the cool of the day.
On Tuesday morning we discovered that my hemoglobin levels had dropped, so they cancelled chemo and replaced it with a blood transfusion–something I did not want to do. So I prayed, “May Jesus’s love be in that blood,” and I had peace.
Early in the morning on Wednesday my left groin seared in pain, preventing me from walking straight. By noon, the whole leg ballooned, causing edema. The nurse's assistant urged two procedures scheduled: an ultrasound and a blood clot filter. “If a blood clot releases, it will go straight to the heart,” we were told. We were back at the center in five minutes. (I had found out earlier that I had a small blood clot in the lung too.)
As Brian rolled me in a wheelchair out of the elevator to the procedure room, he received a text that an underground church in Iran had just prayed for me. Instantly, I felt the warmth of Jesus’s love in a dark place. And I knew I would be okay.
During the whole week, through every fever, chill, and pain, I have felt Jesus's love. The visual I lean on the most is where I stopped in the book of John: John 19, the crucifixion. I reflect in joy at the amount of love Jesus had for us to die for our sins. The thought of his suffering has made mine lighter.
Now for the news of the week: The tumor has reduced 20% in size. The radiation team has re-mapped the field to dial in more on the tumor.
Prayer Requests:
Fevers go away. I have at least one everyday.
The doctors find the source of the fevers.
I stop bleeding so I can take blood thinners.
The tumor continues to shrink.
