Members of One Body
27 September 2026
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
Romans 12:4–5 (NIV)
Besides a chemo change in which I may potentially lose my hair, three Imodiums per day, and a close call to ER, these past two weeks have been much better than the first three weeks. Last Tuesday I started the first of four twelve-hour internal radiation procedures. Two are now complete, leaving only two more (this Tuesday and the following Tuesday). While lying flat during the second procedure, I developed a pressure wound on my tailbone, which I had injured years ago. We iced the severe pain instead of visiting the ER, and, with a dozen or so people praying for me in an urgent request, the swelling and pain reduced by morning.
But that is not the only news that came from the second procedure. The radiation oncologist said to me, “It’s amazing. Your tumor is nearly completely gone.”
Ultimately, God is healing me—though he is using an incredible team of two oncologists, two physician assistants, four radiation technicians, and several nurses to make it happen. I’m amazed at the teamwork at City of Hope in Zion, Illinois. The radiation oncologist and the gynecologic oncologist are in constant communication. Due to my blood clots, they contacted the anesthesia department who met with me prior to the first internal radiation procedure, and the pharmacy called to review all medications and supplements for a green light.
Everything is in one building: radiation on the lower floor, doctor and surgery on the second floor, and infusion on the third floor. When I walk the halls or eat in the cafeteria, I see at least one to two team members who say hello and comment on my progress. One even handed me a little crocheted red heart called a pocket hug when I was having a hard day.
What else is teamwork? Your prayers, encouragement, and financial support while I push through and finish treatment. Not to mention those who are taking care of our dog Smokey, our mail, and other Texas needs.
Prayer Requests:
No more pressure wounds
No sides effects on Monday when I receive immunotherapy
Successful internal radiation procedures on Tuesday and the following Tuesday
Smiles and love,
