“For every beast of the forest is mine,

the cattle on a thousand hills.

I know all the birds of the hills,

and all that moves in the field is mine.

If I were hungry, I would not tell you,

for the world and its fullness are mine.”

Psalm 50:10–12 (ESV)

Let me take you back almost two weeks to October 5 when my radiation oncologist performed the last internal radiation procedure. While in the recovery room, he mentioned a financial assistance program with the pharmaceutical company that supplies the immunotherapy drug. I had already received three doses (each at $56,3228.48, which reflects the discounted price). This drug was miscoded on our initial estimated treatment cost, and I begin doses this Tuesday on a six-week protocol for one year. Instead of feeling the weight of debt, Brian and I began to pray for the Lord to sell some cattle on a thousand hills. That phrase is inspired by Psalm 50:10–12 with the idea that the Lord has the means to supply our needs.

The next day, after the last procedure, we packed up the car and started home from Zion to Dallas, spending the night in the St. Louis area. When we arrived home, we found a freshly vacuumed rug, folded laundry, a made bed, a stocked refrigerated, and mums on a clean counter. Our neighbors blessed us so that I could focus on recovery.

The first thing I did when I got home was fill out the application form for the pharmaceutical company’s assistance program. I also returned to many of the detox therapies I learned at Hope4Cancer in Mexico. I have already recovered some. I got off Imodium and, to much of my relief, the bloating and the acid reflux has stopped. The two biggest side effects remaining are hot flashes that disrupt my sleep almost every hour and the left blood clotted leg that does not fare well walking or climbing stairs.

On Wednesday of this week, Brian and I received news from the pharmaceutical company that I’ll be receiving free immunotherapy shots for this upcoming Tuesday and throughout the whole year. Amazing! The weight of debt can affect a person, especially one who is already sick. The key is to take your eyes off the impossible, put them on the Lord, and watch what He does. God is so good.

What’s next? As I mentioned above, we head to Zion on Monday for bloodwork, blot clot assessment, and a free immunotherapy shot. In six weeks I will return for another free shot and an MRI. After six more weeks, I’ll have another free shot and a PET scan, in which I hope to receive a cancer-free diagnosis.

This is where we stand financially at the present time:

  1. Brian and I paid (with help from friends and family) $126,700.

  2. We are waiting on our shared health program to pay $115,000.

  3. The unexpected immunotherapy increase yet to be paid is $139,242.62.

Prayer requests:

  1. The shared health program pays their portion.

  2. The Lord sells some more cattle for the unexpected cost.

  3. The blood clot dissolves.

  4. Sleep returns.
